Add A Heavy-Duty Step System to Your RAM HD with N-FAB
While each of the Detroit 3 has doubled down on HD trucks in the last few years (remember the 2019 Chicago Auto Show?), we’ve kept a close eye on RAM in particular, whose pickups continue to earn it ever-strengthening brand loyalty. With that in mind, let’s check in on the 2020 RAM 2500 and 3500 HD models—as well as the quality aftermarket step systems our friends over at N-FAB have on deck for these trucks. Whether for a practical leg up or a dose of custom style, heavy-duty steps are an ideal accessory for a heavy-duty truck.
Why HD?
As the SUV market gets overcrowded and (let’s be honest) terribly derivative, the HD truck segment is quickly becoming one of the most competitive in the auto industry. Pickups of all shapes and sizes are generally a profitable venture, but heavy-duty models? Those babies can easily reach $70k and beyond when loaded with goodies. That offers a significant boost to one’s bottom line.
The traditional bigger-is-better approach to designing and advertising HD trucks has “trapped pickup engineers into a vicious cycle of chasing max tow and payload numbers,” which, at the end of the day, are pretty useless to average truck buyers, says MotorTrend. In the magazine’s opinion, when you let engineers focus on what people really want and “stop chasing big rig truck numbers” you get the RAM Heavy Duty—MotorTrend’s 2020 Truck of the Year.

RAM HD Trucks Take Capability to New Levels
In addition to a new high-strength steel platform, more aerodynamic design, reengineered interior, and a “graceful elegance” unmatched by competitors, “Ram HD buyers are spoiled for choice,” adds MotorTrend. “Each of its six trim levels features a distinctive grille, wheel options, and trim befitting the character of the truck, covering the bases from functional and work-ready in Tradesman models to the adventure-friendly 2500 Power Wagon and downright luxurious 3500 Limited.”
But while style and comfort are no doubt important to any modern vehicle design, the crux of a pickup truck—especially of the heavy-duty variety—is capability. Luckily, RAM delivers on this front as well.
Customers can choose from three engine options. First is a familiar 6.4-liter Hemi V8 producing 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, that also features updated fuel-saving technology. Also available are two revamped 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesels, which more than double torque output (850 lb-ft on the 2500 model and an unprecedented 1,000 lb-ft on the 3500). All that power is reinforced by a variety of mechanical improvements, including refined transmissions, 4WD transfer cases, and suspension components.

N-FAB Step Systems Add Utility & Style
A heavy-duty truck requires some heavy-duty accessories, so don’t settle for just any aftermarket manufacturer. NFAB has more than two decades of experience under its belt, plus a proven line of high-quality products.
Why Side Steps?
When you’re tackling big jobs in rugged environments, it’s important that you have a safe step-up when entering and exiting your big rig—especially if you’ve added a lift. While side steps and running boards provide that necessary sure-footing, they also help protect your vehicle from flying road debris. We call that a win-win.
Available in a variety of lengths and finishes, N-FAB offers several quality step systems compatible with the 2020 RAM HD models.
N-FAB Nerf Bars
Sporting a patented drop-down hoop step design featuring either a 2-inch or 3-inch main tube diameter, N-FAB Nerf Bars provide ease-of-access and a dose of classic styling. Customers can choose from a gloss or textured black finish, both of which complement the bars’ high and tight fitment to the cab. A fully welded one-piece construction ensures extra strength and a headache-free installation.
N-FAB RKR Rails
Looking for something a little more rugged and off-road inspired? N-FAB’s RKR Rails might just do the trick. Made from 1.75″ tubing with .12″ thick walls, these rock rails offer greater protection in rocky terrain, as well as some extra styling points. Treated against rust and custom-designed to bolt on to eliminate flex, the RKR Rails also feature detachable side steps.
N-FAB EpYx Step System
“Modern and angular” meets “sleek and polished” to create the N-FAB EpYx Step System. Cool cut-outs add a little aggression while an expanded 15” x 4” step plate ensures practical and safe performance. The design sits high and tight to the cab for a cohesive look, but if you’d rather have them sit a little lower for more stepping room, that’s an option too. N-FAB’s clever modular brackets allow for a little extra wiggle room.
N-FAB Growler Running Boards
True to its name, this aggressively-styled, pronounced running board is built to take a beating. Designed with the working man in mind, the Growler features an all-aluminum construction with textured black powder coating to endure whatever Mother Nature throws at it. A rugged tread along the entire board provides ultimate traction and a place to scrape off those muddy boots. Versatile, strong, and easy to clean, we recommend this for RAM HD owners who have exceptionally dirty jobs on their to-do lists.

N-FAB Podium LG & SS Steps
If you love traditional tubular designs but wouldn’t mind dragging them into the world of contemporary styling, the Podium LG & SS Steps might be your bag. Crafted of heavy-duty stainless steel and featuring a fully-welded, one-piece construction, the Podium also sports an expanded and enclosed step with angular, textured grips. Available in either a highly polished or textured black powder coat finish for protection, the Podium steps are also easy to install with no cutting or drilling required.
N-FAB Predator Pro Steps
The N-FAB Predator Pro sports an angular drop-down step design similar to its EpYx sibling, but adds more cut-outs for a unique, aggressive effect. Additionally, the Predator uses an all-aluminum construction compared to the EpYx’s steel, so if lightweight rust-resistance is on your list, you may want to check these out.
All N-FAB step systems for the 2020 RAM HD models come backed by a limited lifetime warranty on workmanship and 5-year warranty on finish. They can all be installed in your own garage or driveway and require no special tools or additional hardware. Click here to learn more!
