Competition Corner: December 2022 Auto Events

It’s December, and winter is officially on the horizon. It’s time to start shacking up to tackle that seasonal project. If you’re looking for more ways to end the year on a big note, you’ve come to the right place. Competition Corner is all about keeping you in touch with the best automotive action, and this time around, we’ve got plenty of racing, expos and more automotive sweetness to put on your radar. So, buckle up, here are some must-see December auto events in 2022.

55th Annual Snowball Derby

While events take breaks, stockcar never sleeps. Need proof? The 55th Annual Snowball Derby is going down on December 1-4. This event’s been going on since 1968 and is one heck of a way to kick off any month with a bang. It’s known for bringing out the best of the best for a 300-lap showdown at the Five Flags Speedway in the magical state of Florida.

Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show

As if an event with 15 miles of parts and 30,000 attendees needs an introduction. If classic cars are your dig, you know all about the legendary Pomona Swap Meet set for December 4 – even if you’re trapped indoors, 3,000 miles away.

Who knows? This might be the year you finally make a break for it. Even if you somehow can’t find parts, drooling over the countless classics will surely get you through those winter blues.

Milwaukee Miniature Motors Show

Not everyone’s got the funds to dump into a collector-car project this winter. Every car nut does dig model cars, though. So, why not celebrate them too?

That’s what you can do this December 4 at the Milwaukee Miniatures Motor Show. It’s got everything you love about a regular car show, just with a different medium. At the very most, it’s a new way to celebrate what you love, and at the very least, it’s a great way to keep things feeling fresh.

PRI 2022

That’s right – it’s PRI time. The only trade show you racing nuts give a dang about. It’s the one show that brings the best in the business together to make your customers faster. More than 1,100 vendors are coming together to make it happen at the one and only Indiana Convention Center December 8-10.

You already know if you’re going, so let this serve as a timely reminder.

McKenzie’s SNORE Rage at the River

Now’s the best time to go to a desert race. Sure, you’ll end up stinking like fuel, with sand in every crevice and probably some gnarly sunburn, but it sure beats freezing.

McKenzie’s SNORE Rage at the River brings together 400 of the meanest drivers behind an off-road machine, making it the perfect opportunity for you to do just that. It’s going down in the Nevada Desert December 9-11, and you’re not going to want to miss out.

RM Sotheby’s Miami Auction

You don’t have to go to the middle of the desert to enjoy cars in the warm weather, though. Thankfully, Florida is a real place and plenty of car nuts live down there.

This December 10th is the RM Sotheby’s Miami Auction. It’s a little fancier than our usual events – even Sotheby’s is calling it “chic” – but it’s a great place to place bids on some of the finest automobiles in existence. Plus, the whole thing is being held at a completely terrifying yet amazing venue. What more could you want from a new adventure?

FuelFest

Okay, maybe you’d rather the desert than overly fancy. But maybe you don’t want off-road madness. Instead, you want some good, hardy, trendy speed on the blacktop. It’s a tall order, but FuelFest has you covered this December 10.

This is the second year of a monumental event put on to celebrate speed and honor the late legend, Paul Walker. It’s exactly what gearhead Millennials dream of when it comes to automotive events, and you need to see it for yourself.

24 Hours of Lemons – The Kim Harmon Scrotium 500 2022

Yeah, your mind went to the right place. The 24 Hours of Lemons Kim Harmon Scrotium 500 is named for a poor woman’s inability to pronounce the name of a certain part of the male anatomy. And, yes, the trophy is an absolute masterpiece that you need to see to believe.

If you’ve got the stones to make it a family jewel, you need to head to Road Atlanta December 10-11.

Winter Jam

It’s the end of the year, and when it comes to December auto events, you’re surely craving some gnarly, flashy action. That’s exactly why you need to head to Northern California on December 17th. That’s when the region’s largest drift event, Winter Jam, goes down.

Yeah, this is the one where they tear up the infamous Sonoma raceway. You’ll see the greatest drivers push it to the limits, which will put you on high for the remainder of the cold season.

Daytona KartWeek

Kart racing is the next big thing. It’s already got a massive following, but I’m telling you, it’ll rank among NASCAR and F1 someday. It’s served as the proving ground for many of the greats, and happens to be an extremely entertaining format.

Check it out for yourself as Daytona Kart Week kicks off the 2023 season on December 27-30. It’s going to be a good one, too. They’re adding a little dirt to the mix!
