Competition Corner: Fall In Love with February 2022 Auto Events
Folks, February is upon us. It may be the shortest and one of the darkest and coldest months of the year, but it means spring is finally on the horizon. (Even if it’s just a tiny blip wayyy out in the distance.) Don’t drive yourself mad counting the days until sunny swap meets. Competition Corner rounded up plenty of events to keep you occupied for the next 28 days!
SVRA
First up is a twofer. The month of February is dialing it up with two Speed Tours. The first goes down on February 4-6 and sees vintage racers take the Autoclub Speedway in Fontana, California by storm. The second sends equally-as-vicious retro motor heads to take on Sebring from February 24-27. Click the links and see what racing was like before computers ruled the world.
Chicago Auto Show
You’re not going to Chicago for the pizza; you’re heading out because it’s hosting one of the few auto shows that haven’t been canceled this year due to COVID. If keeping up with modern advancements, new releases, and anything else auto-related is your business, then the McCormick Place convention center is where you need to be February 12-21. While vaccinations are not required to attend, there are safety guidelines in place. Get everything you need to know right here.
NHRA
How’s about another twofer? No moss is growing on the NHRA this February. February 17-20, drivers will be at each other’s throats for the Winternationals in Pamona, California. Then, February 25-27, the pavement will be cracking at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona, when racers go all-out for the Arizona Nationals. You know you need some motivation, so why not check out how the pros get it done?
BITD: 2022 UTV Legends Championship
BITD is known for delivering epic desert glory. But while trophy trucks might be the first thing to come to mind, it’s important to remember all machines are put to the test. If UTVs tickle your fancy, you’ll want to check out the Legends Championship February 17-20, as they’ll tackle 17 miles of Nevada desert track. Trust us, you need some sun in your eyes and sand in your teeth. Everything you need to know is right here.
14th Annual Lake Havasu City Rockabilly Reunion
The Lake Havasu City Rockabilly Reunion, set for February 18, is all about celebrating what the 1950s represented. Yes, there will be a killer car and bike show, but that’s not all. Over 150 vendors are set to attend, seemingly endless live music is to be enjoyed, and there will even be a pin-up pageant. Sold? Good. Everything you need to know is at this link.

Don’t turn to fly-by-night companies to save money when reliable brands have plenty of budget-oriented product! Go-to products like Derale cooling fans, Jet Performance throttle bodies, Aeromotive fuel systems, Aeroquip hoses, and COMP Cams camshafts can work together to satisfy a need for speed without draining the bank account.
61st Annual O’Reilly Autorama Car Show
Hot rods. Customs. Imports. Modern muscle. Autorama is about celebrating just about anything awesome on wheels. Oh yeah, Danny Koker, Kevin Mack, and Chip Foose will also be making celebrity appearances among countless cars on display and vendors showing the goods. Heck, you’ll even be able to pick up some car care tips from the pros over at Meguiar’s. It’s pretty much the greatest car show in the world, which is why it’s on its 62nd year. Clear your schedule February 18-20, book a flight to Dallas, and get your tickets here.
ARCA Menards Series – Lucas Oil 200
What’s more exciting than the return of NASCAR? Watching the next generation of big-time stock car racers show that it doesn’t take a multimillion-dollar franchise to get it done. February 19, the day before the Daytona 500, you can catch the ARCA drivers battling it out on the same legendary speedway. You’ll be tuning in for the big leagues anyway, so make a weekend of it!
Daytona 500
Did you really think anything else could follow up the last one? On February 20 NASCAR is back, baby. And, as we all know, that’s what America is all about. Partnered with the incredibly-name NASCAR Xfinity “Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner” 300 race, as well as an ARCA opener, and a Luke Combs pre-race performance, it might be the most ‘Murican thing you do all year. Pack your bags, click the link, and let’s go racing.

Carlisle: Lakeland Winter Collector Car Auction
If you’re a northeasterner, you’ll know Carlisle is breaking all the rules. Not because it’s holding an auction rather than a massive meet, but because they’re holding it down in the state of Florida. That said, you already know a ton of killer cars are going up on the block. Everything from Pintos and station wagons to the horsepower war favorites will be heading home the highest bidder. There’s even an all-truck hour. If that’s the action you want in on, you’d better check the link and hit the road February 25-26.
15th Annual Boca Concours d’Elegance
If you don’t love giving back, you have no business being around cars. Wait, that doesn’t sound right. If you don’t love Howie Mandell, you don’t have any business being around cars. That’s better!
In all seriousness, the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance has raised more than $10 million dollars for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County to date. February 25-27 is your big chance to drool over priceless classics and feel good doing it. That’s what you need in your life in these hard times, so you’d better get the details on how you can be a part of it.
Cal4Wheel Winter Fun Festival
Running alongside the elegant d’Elegance is a decidedly more earthy event in Grass Valley, CA. With more runs than we care to count, and difficulty levels all over the board, the Cal4Wheel Winter Fun Festival, running February 25-27, certainly has something for anyone who enjoys dirt and snow in every crevice. Yes, we said snow. It’s a true winter festival, so you’d better dress warm. That said, all the details about your new dream destination can be found here.
RADwood Austin
What’s Radwood all about? Well, while the cars of the ’80s and ’90s weren’t exactly known for sheer power, there’s no denying the culture is something many folks love. Just like shows dedicated to celebrating the culture and cars of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, Radwood is all about reliving the themes and styles that defined when middle parts and cargo jeans were all the rage. Of course, you’ll see tons of great vehicles produced from 1980-1999, and it’s worth checking out! (Yes, you can bring your BMX and rollerblades, too.) Clear that schedule February 26 and click this link.
