TruXedo Custom Covers for Classic Rides
Pickup trucks have become major sellers in the past thirty years. Mostly, these variants are late-model (i.e., vehicles built during the previous five years), but the segment’s overall growth is pushing more owners to consider retrofitting a classic or vintage truck.
While this is a cool way to show up at the local car show, some issues do apply.

For example, if you’re working on a ’38 Chevy build, and the truck is beyond its prime from a manufacturing perspective, there are few body/bed templates, or ready measurements available. This is particularly true in the case of aftermarket accessories, like fitted tonneau covers.
A useful add-on no matter what kind of truck you drive, tonneau covers offer bed protection, cargo security, style improvements, and even a little bump in aerodynamics.
While there are various manufacturers’ working to expand available applications, only TruXedo stands out as a brand that offers a truly custom-designed solution.
TruXedo Custom Covers
With more than 20 years’ experience manufacturing tonneau covers, TruXedo boasts an impressive product selection for pickups of all ages. Indeed, you can purchase an off-the-rack tonneau from the company for trucks dating back to 1967!
However, in an effort to better serve all customers – regardless of what they drive – the company decided to add custom covers to the roster. A go-to option for folks with classic or unique truck builds (or those with a tool box), the service has become pretty popular over the years.

Manufacturing & Installation
TruXedo custom covers do require additional personnel during the build process, explains a company spokesperson. Therefore, only one main design is available – the Lo Pro. This soft-rolling tonneau is TruXedo’s most popular cover. It features a signature, low-profile design and heavy-duty construction with patented automatic tension control to ensure it stays looking good in any weather condition.
According to the company, custom Lo Pros are built in much the same way as standard Lo Pro covers, just with custom lengths and widths based on the truck beds in question. The only real exception would be toolbox cuts where a “header shelf” is included; allowing for the tonneau to attach and seal against the toolbox.
How to Preserve the Life of Your Tonneau Cover
Installation is similar, too. Lo Pro covers are designed to mount inside the rails of the truck bed. Not only does this make for an easy setup, but also ensures you maintain full access to any stake pocket holes for use with additional accessories. Occasionally, there are some specific older trucks that require drilling (such as a truck bed that has no flange), but on the whole, TruXedo says custom cover installation should be identical to standard tonneau installation.
Given the custom nature, you might think the warranty process could pose a problem. However, custom or no, the Lo Pro carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Get to Know TruXedo
Whether you drive a vintage Ford or a brand-new Chevy (or one of the many pickups in between) TruXedo has a cover for you. The company offers both soft-rolling (Lo Pro, TruXport, and Pro X15) and hard-rolling (Sentry and Sentry CT) options, as well as a unique hybrid cover (Deuce) that combines the full bed access of a roll-up cover with the added convenience and quick access of a folding cover.
A family-owned company, TruXedo launched operations in 2000 with its first soft roll-up cover. However, its history dates back quite a bit further – to the 1950s. The company was originally a division of Shur-Co, a manufacturer well-known for its rugged tarps and coverings for commercial and agriculture applications.
In 2007, TruXedo merged with Extang to form Truck Hero Industries, a company that has gone on to acquire more than a dozen complementary brands and establish itself as a truck accessory juggernaut in the aftermarket. Learn more about TruXedo custom covers and modern tonneaus too at truxedo.com.
