Get More Growl From Your S550’s Coyote With BBK Performance
Back in the 1960s, the Big Three (Chevy, Ford, and Dodge) were locked in a three-way grudge match for performance. This battle for “mo’ powah” drove their R&D departments to churn out ridiculous high-performance variants of the muscle cars we love so much today: The Dodge Challenger, Chevy Camaro, and Ford Mustang.

But since high-performance cars cost more to insure, automakers had to “fudge” the numbers a bit. (Read: they lied about how much horsepower their cars produced.) In their efforts to outperform each other, they spawned a race not unlike the space race during the same decade. Only this finish line included fast cars, rather than some dusty boot prints on the moon.
A lot has changed in the 60 or so years since the classic muscle car era. A LOT.
Back in the 1960s, horsepower was cheap. The EPA wasn’t here to mandate catalytic converters or fuel economy standards. But wouldn’t you know it, the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro are still here with us.
The Mustang is in its sixth — and dare I say best-looking — generation today. When equipped with the growly Coyote V8 engine, the S550 Mustang is as pleasing to the ears as it is to the eyes. But let’s be honest, stock specs are rarely enough for us enthusiasts.
Enter BBK Performance.
BBK Performance has been a staple in the aftermarket parts industry for over 25 years now, especially in the late-model truck and modern muscle car realms. What’s more, all the parts in its catalog were born, designed, and built right here in America. Let’s take a closer look at BBK’s offerings for the S550 Mustang, and how the company can help you squeeze some more performance out of that Coyote.

Breathe In
When you’re looking to improve the sound and performance of an engine, a performance intake system should be your first step. Performance intakes offer less restriction than the stock systems, and increased air flow means increased power.
BBK Performance offers two versions of its Cold Air Intake: one in chrome and one in a stealthier black powder coat finish. Both systems offer large diameter piping, a heat shield to help protect the new filter from engine bay heat, and excellent styling.
If an intake system isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, consider pairing it up with a larger throttle body. The throttle body is responsible for controlling the amount of air entering the engine. The larger the diameter, the more air flow. BBK Performance throttle bodies are available with an 85mm or 90mm throttle bore. This upgrade is best for naturally aspirated street vehicles and offers quicker throttle response and power over the stock unit.
Watch a BBK R&D technician add more horsepower, torque, and throttle response to the already-incredible S550 Mustang GT in just a few minutes, using basic hand tools and installing the BBK throttle body.
Breathe Out
Once you’ve upgraded the intake on your Mustang, the exhaust is a logical next step. Exhaust upgrades boast increases in horsepower as well as a more aggressive exhaust note. The BBK Performance X-Pipe is an affordable and easy-to-install upgrade that will drastically change the sound of your exhaust. This X-Pipe helps to balance the exhaust pulses for a really unique sound.
If you’re looking for something a little more wild, check out the Long Tube Headers and 3.0” Catted Mid Pipe. These pipes are meant to go hand-in-hand, offering significantly better exhaust flow, horsepower, and a radical sound that is sure to turn some heads.
Find Your Stance
If you’re thinking about lowering your Mustang, then consider the BBK Performance Caster Camber Plates. These anodized billet aluminum plates look fantastic. Honestly, it’s almost a shame they’ll be hidden by the strut towers.
These strut mount plates offer a wide range of adjustment, which means you can correct your front-end alignment, prevent premature tire wear, and increase turn-in and steering response.
Find a Little Separation
If you’re looking to protect your Coyote V8 engine for years to come, the BBK Performance Oil Separator Catch Can is just what you need. This must-have upgrade is machined from solid billet aluminum and works by collecting the exceptionally fine oil vapor droplets inside the reservoir, keeping them from coating the inside of your intake manifold and leading to power-robbing carbon build up. The reservoir is easily removable for draining and cleaning, and the kit includes hoses and OEM-style quick fit connectors for a simple installation.

New Products
Seeking some performance boosts for other popular rides? BBK has plenty of product on deck. Here are a few newer releases.
2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L Coyote Exhaust Headers
Owners of the popular 2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014 Ford F150 5.0L Coyote truck are always looking for ways to improve horsepower and torque. BBK Performance offers both shorty-tuned and long tube exhaust headers.
BBK Performance 1-3/4” tuned length shorty exhaust headers are available in a chrome, polished silver ceramic finish or 304 stainless steel for maximum longevity. All primary tubes are CNC mandrel bent, using 16-gauge tubing for unrestricted and increased exhaust flow for maximum horsepower and torque gains right out of the box. All BBK headers also use 3/8″ thick header flanges to prevent any heat distortion and are pressure tested at the factory to ensure a leak free fit. Direct bolt-on; no-tune required.
Watch the video below to learn how this upgrade can add 10-15 rear wheel horsepower to your setup.
BBK Performance 1-3/4” Long tube exhaust headers are available in polished silver ceramic or 304 stainless steel (includes a high flow mid pipe – aluminized steel with steel substrate high flow catalytic converters). Direct bolt-on; no-tune required.

They feature a simple bolt-on design, putting installation around 30 minutes. Currently available for new Ford Raptor, Hellcat, and HEMI applications, as well as V6 Pentastar engines.
2016-2020 Camaro SS 6.2L Cold Air Kit
Offering between 12-18 horsepower gains depending on the application, this Black Series Cold Air Intake features high-quality polymer intake tubes and a custom air shroud that bolts directly in place. It allows for improved throttle response, as well as a stress-free, 30-minute installation. It also incorporates a high-flow washable cotton element filter for maximum flow. Expect a great look with no tune required and proudly made in the USA.
About BBK Performance
Founded in 1988, BBK (which stands for “Brian, Barry, and Ken”—the three men responsible for getting the business off the ground) cut its teeth producing power-potent solutions for the newly fuel-injected Camaros and Mustangs of the era. At that time, other aftermarket manufacturers were still battling it out with carbureted applications.
Since then, these guys have continued to feverishly pursue the goal of providing fuel-injected muscle cars with performance upgrades that overcome the limits of factory equipment. Every year, application extensions and new product lines join the company’s output, including throttle bodies, air intakes, exhaust, and more.
