SEMA 2022 Preview: Extang Solid Fold ALX and Updated Xceed Truck Bed Covers

Since SEMA has long been the staging ground for OEMs to roll out new products as well as updates to existing ones, Extang is using the 2022 show to tout some additions to its tonneau cover lineup.

Those additions include Solid Fold ALX – the heavy-duty cousin of the popular Trifecta ALX – and an updated version of the Xceed.

Extang Solid Fold ALX

Initially debuted at SEMA 2021, the Extang Solid Fold ALX is based on the manufacturer’s positive feedback on its Trifecta ALX soft-fold cover.

Aside from offering a heavier-duty construction that holds up to weight (whether that’s tailgaters looking for a place to sit or Mother Nature eyeing up a spot to dump barrels of snow), this tonneau cover comes with a few standout features that improve upon the Trifecta.

  • Easy and secure release.
The Solid Fold ALX swaps manual clamps for a secure rotary release system. This design makes it easier to open and close the cover with a simple twist-and-lift function. Extang even added a small instruction label if you forget which direction to rotate the knob. The cover automatically latches when closed, adding to the product’s security.
  • EnduraShield panels.
The rugged panels on the Solid Fold are scratch and dent-resistant and can hold up against harsh UV conditions. For those tailgate parties we mentioned, those heavy-duty panels and a one-inch frame hold up to 600 pounds of evenly distributed weight.
  • Improved components.
The little details count, and Extang took note with this cover. The ALX’s design keeps out all the standard elements like rain, dirt, and snow with a combination of hard polymer rubber corners, hinge caps, and snap-on perimeter seals. A set of jaw grip clamps also ensure a snug fit and easy installation.

For a finishing touch, the ALX boasts a sharp-looking matte black textured finish on its aircraft-grade aluminum frame.

Extang backs up the new ALX with its Maximum Strength 3-Year warranty, ensuring you’ll get plenty of life out of the product and ample support if there’s ever an issue. The manufacturer expects to release the Solid Fold ALX ahead of SEMA 2022.

But wait, there’s more!

Extang Xceed Update

While Extang is showcasing the Solid Fold ALX at SEMA 2022, the manufacturer stressed that the folding cover won’t be the main product it debuts. That’s because the main focus is an updated version of the popular Extang Xceed.

Right now, details are scant, but we know that the Xceed is getting a facelift by integrating the Solid Fold’s EnduraShield top skin. This design replaces the vinyl covering featured on current versions of the Xceed. Extang said all other features will remain intact, including Extang’s exclusive Secure Rotary Release one-handed twist and lift single motion opening.

Turn to the Engine Block for all your crucial SEMA 2022 updates, which will be sharing more of in the coming weeks. And keep an eye out for Extang’s newest product additions, appearing at SEMA 2022.
